My memories of this wedding and experience are nearly tangible. It's insane.
Growing up, my Dad always reminisced about Mackinac Island; all 3.8 square miles of it, located in Lake Huron between Michigan's Upper and Lower Peninsulas. He shared about the horse-drawn carriages, decadent fudge, and crystal clear water. His stories made it seem like a dream... a place where history reigned and time slowed down. I always wanted to visit but never really thought about when that would be.
When my friend Michael asked if I would photograph his wedding on Mackinac Island, I literally couldn’t believe it. THIS WAS IT! And Tony (my husband) signed on to join me.
Rachel and Michael chose to say their vows at the legendary Inn at Stonecliffe, situated high on the west bluff of Mackinac. On top of the absurdly beautiful location, Rachel and Michael's day was also full of radical love and extraordinary kindness. The people involved were so REAL and present (which I think is one of the major benefits of destination weddings). The intimacy of it all had me in tears on their wedding day and gushing with thankfulness even weeks after it.
Gah. Enjoy my favorites from their wedding story below.
